A little bit of city...
Jake and I do not really live close to downtown Chicago, it is about an hour from our house on the train and it could be longer driving in traffic. However, going downtown on the train is one of our favorite things to do. Whether we are going to watch the Chicago marathon, visit the Field Museum or see a show, it is always fun being in the big city!
Today we were downtown with Nana and the Wright family- Jake's grandma and cousins. We had a delightful lunch at Miller's Pub and then walked up and down the city looking at the Christmas decorations and lights. (I will add that Field's windows are not as good as they were before Macy's bought them out. ) Everything was festive and it was a wonderful afternoon.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
The pictures are a little out of order, but there is a picture of the house we live in. The windows at the top are our apartment. The we drove to a tree farm in northern lake County and cut down our very first Christmas tree together. They take you on a tractor with a big trailer behind it. You get off when you see trees you like (they educate you about each kind they grow as you ride out to the trees) and chop the one you like down. It started snowing on our way there and it was beautiful as we picked our tree out and cut it down. We came home, decorated it and now it smells of pine goodness. And we are both exhausted.

5. It starts snowing 2 hours before it is supposed to... and... You almost die driving in a car without all wheel drive trying to get your Christmas tree.

7. Mickey Finn's has "Santa's Brew" which is an awesome beer brewed and served once every year during the month of December.

BBBRRRRRRRR
It's 23 degrees outside right now. Really makes you want to jump up and get out of bed! Also, here in the Windy City I will check the weather for the day when I wake up. It might say "High of 46". By the time I drink my coffee (which my husband makes for me EVERY DAY) it might say "High of 42". Moral of the story: the weather is VERY unpredictable here, so always have a coat/hat/and mittens. And wear layers.

Fish Update
In honor of my brother Nate- we have re-named the fish. Our 2 favorite hang out spots in town are Mickey Finns and Firkin. Therefore- we have named them "Mickey" and "Firkin" or for short- "Mick" and "Firk".

A Week Later
Today is Wednesday, oops, that means I have not added anything in a week. Just goes to show how busy life is. But life is so good. I can't believe Thanksgiving is only a week and a day away! It seems like it was just yesterday I was at a wedding shower the Sunday before my wedding. And now we have been married for almost 5 months. WOW!
Last week I decided to try the Bible study at our church. When I called the woman said "The younger group meets Wednesdays, but you are more than welcome to come..." I went, and was somewhat NOT surprised when I was easily the youngest person there... by 40 years. But the Bible study was amazing, those women were filled with so much wisdom and yes, I am going back!
I get to see my family in just a few days, which I am super excited about. I've had this conversation with my dad many times, families were not created to move as far away from each other.... And yet many American families are spread across the country because of jobs, school, and adventure.... I'm looking forward to the beach, fellowship, and GREAT food with my family for Thanksgiving. And here I might rant a little bit...
CHRISTMAS COMES AFTER THANKSGIVING!!!!!
Every single shop, the grocery store, even Home Depot are decked out with Christmas gear. Even the radio stations are playing Christmas Music. Ummm? Thanksgiving anyone? The last time I checked we are not even passed Turkey Day and yet people have moved on to Christmas. Some people even have their Christmas lights up in our neighborhood. Personally, I love Thanksgiving because it allows for an actual day to think about what we are thankful for, and to thank God for the blessings, and rejoice that he is in control during the hard times. This should happen every day, but how cool to have 1 day of the year dedicated to being with family and being THANKFUL.

Wildlife!
Just another Wednesday
Today I am achy from yet another cold sore. On the bright side, Jake and I have 2 new additions to our family- Red and Blue. No they are not dogs, they are Betta fish. (And yes, they are RED and BLUE, original I know...) As I look at them it takes me back to college where my roommate Meg and I had a Betta named Bruiser. He would go for days without eating because we would either be gone or would forget, and he still lived. This may sound like a careless confession, that we forgot to take care of our fish, but I think it is a testimony of how great Betta fish are as pets for the busy, chaotic household.
At this moment I am watching the WGN news which could be my favorite thing to watch. I just took fresh bread out of the oven and it smells so good. I love my house, even if we JUST hung pictures on the walls... It feels like home now, which is good.
I suppose I should get off the couch and be productive today. Another positive note- thank goodness I do not have to walk up and down 4 flights of stairs to do laundry!
